ENTEK Coating LLC – Oregon

In H1 2025 ENTEK commissioned an ISO 7 Clean Room Certified coating operation at the ENTEK Headquarters in Oregon, USA.

This new Li-battery separator coating operation has the capability to produce single and double side coating of 2, 3, 4 & 5-layer, ceramic and adhesive coated separators.

ENTEK Coating LLC operation has the capacity for 70Million m2 / year of coated separator production, equivalent to approximately 7GWh of Li-ion cell production.

Technology deployed at ENTEK Coating LLC is identical to that being deployed at ENTEK’s Giga separator production facility; ENTEK Lithium Separators LLC, in Terre Haute, Indiana.

The ENTEK Coating LLC operation therefore represents a Pilot to Giga scale ‘Bridging facility’, deployed in advance of ENTEK’s full-scale Giga facility. This enables ENTEK to de-risk the 1.4billion m2 capacity facility in Indiana and compress OEM and Tier 1 approval lead times through implementation of the same processing technologies and materials.

Coated separators produced at ENTEK Coating LLC are chemistry and form-factor agnostic with applicability to:

ENTEK Lithium Separators LLC – Terre Haute, Indiana

ENTEK is building a new Lithium-ion battery separator plant in Terre Haute, Indiana, which is being financed by a $1.3 billion direct loan from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Loan Programs Office (LPO) to support the U.S. electric vehicle (EV) and energy storage systems (ESS) supply chain.

In November, 2024, the DOE announced the finalization of the $1.3 billion loan to ENTEK Lithium Separators (ELS). His backing from the U.S DOE provides security of supply for U.S based customers and supports the growth and innovation of the domestic EV and ESS market in the U.S.

At full capacity the plant will produce 1.4 billion m2 / year of uncoated and coated separators, a critical component for EV and ESS battery performance and safety. Equivalent to 160GWh of Li-ion cell production.

ENTEK will be the first company in North America to manufacture fully-integrated, wet-process, Polyethylene, coated and uncoated, Li-ion battery separator material.

Phase I of the project representing 700 Million m2 of capacity deployment in Indiana represents the culmination of 40 years of ENTEK’s proprietary know-how in extrusion and extraction of filled and unfilled microporous membranes with expected SOP Q4 2026.

At the forefront of ENTEK’s technology deployment in Indiana is the elimination of harmful Methylene Chloride as an extraction solvent, widely used elsewhere in Li-ion separator production and a key target of the U.S Environmental Protection Agency.

ENTEK’s innovative non-chlorinated solvent and solvent recovery system with 99.9% efficiency is testament to ENTEK’s robust adoption of ESG principles and the need to Future-proof the mid-stream component supply chain for U.S. based Li-ion cell producers.
