2015 Fishing Derby

2015 Fishing DerbyBy 6 a.m., the first lines had been cast at this year’s annual kids fishing derby at DK Wildlife Ranch just outside of Holley.  But derby organizers Scott and Sandi Hegge had been hard at work getting ready for the day for months.  This marks the 10th year that ENTEK employee Scott Hegge has put together the event with the assistance of Crawfordsville Community Church, ENTEK and Cabela’s Sporting Goods.

Says Hegge, ‘Some of these kids have never fished before, and we just wanted to give them a way to do so’.  This year’s derby saw a2015 Fishing Derby total of 68 kids gathered around a pond that had recently been stocked with 300 trout.  Breakfast and lunch was provided to everyone in attendance, and every child went home with a new fishing pole, courtesy of Cabela’s and Hegge.  Prizes were also given out in each age group.  ENTEK was well represented, with a number of employees and their kids there.

And even though it seemed sometimes that the salamanders were biting more than the fish, it was a perfect day to be out enjoying some Oregon sunshine.
